The Maid

Summary: Molly Gray is different. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to help her interpret the world, codifying it into simple rules Molly could understand. But ever since Gran died, 25-year-old Molly has felt utterly lost. She throws herself into her work as a maid with gusto, her obsessive love of cleanliness making it the job of her dreams. But when Molly finds the rich and infamous Mr. Black dead in his bed, her world is turned upside down. To make things worse, Molly’s unusual demeanor has the police targeting her as their lead suspect. As she finds herself caught in a tangle of deception, Molly finds friends she didn’t know she had. But can they untangle the lies before it’s too late?

My Review: I enjoyed this book, but it began to drag for me in the middle. We were almost 100 pages in, and the only thing that had happened from the blurb was Mr. Black had died. I loved Molly’s character, and how old-fashioned her ideals were. It was also extremely frustrating to watch Molly being used by people because she couldn’t understand their true intentions. This only created tension and kept me more engaged. Overall a fun read, but I guessed part of the reveal.

My Takeaway: This is a heartwarming, cozy mystery about found family and justice, however, you might want to be aware of implied drug usage, implied abuse, and mention of a dating couple sharing a bed (no sex implied).

Violence: Light, there is implied abuse (the side character has bruises), blackmail.

Darkness: Mild, themes of abuse, blackmail, murder, and grief.

Bad Messages: On one of the last pages a new male character is introduced wearing eyeliner.

Good Messages: Found family, friendship, and justice.
