Snow and Rose
By Emily Winfield Martin
Summary: Snow and Rose once lived in a big house with a beautiful garden made just for them. They once had two loving parents. But now they live in a small cottage, in the same woods that took their father. As they explore their new surroundings and make new friends, they realize that something dark and evil is terrorizing the forest. With the help of Ivan the mushroom boy and a librarian of things, they set out to save the forest.
My Review: A friend gave me this book, and I was immediately drawn in by the cover and the beautiful illustrations. The pictures fit the story so well and give it a mystical feel. The story itself is enchanting. The descriptions take me into the woods along with Snow and Rose, and the way the author writes the woods makes them even more magical.
My Takeaway: This is a re-telling of Snow White and Rose Red. This story is about two sisters trying to find their place after tragedy, the books themes centering around the power of family, love, and friendship. Parents might want to be aware that the villain might frighten some younger readers.
