Pride and Prejudice

By Jane Austen

Summary: Mrs. Bennet’s one goal in life is to marry her daughters off. So when the eligible Mr. Bingley moves into a neighboring house, the Bennet’s are immediately introduced. When his friend, Mr. Darcy, falls in love with Elizabeth Bennet, a clever and independent young woman, Elizabeth is horrified. She believes the last person in the world she could marry is Mr. Darcy.

My Review: This is my favorite of Jane Austen’s books so far. Elizabeth is fiery, independent, and smart, and we can learn a lot from her, including not to be prejudiced. I love the clean, sweet romance, and the plot moves quickly and has events throughout it that excite you.

My Takeaway: This is story about how pride and prejudice and ruin your happiness, and this book shows the unfair restraints on women in this time-period with elegance and grace. Parents might want to be aware that there is talk of love and marriage, and that the writing can be hard to understand for younger readers.

Romance: Mild, romantic thoughts, talk of marriage and love, proposals, marriage.
