Sophia's War

Summary: In 1776, the American Revolution is raging. When Sophia Calderwood witnesses Nathan Hales’ execution, she vows to work for her country. Wishing to honor her vow and her imprisoned brother, she becomes a spy, going undercover as a maid in a British general’s house. When she uncovers something that could end America, she must race against time to save her country.

My Review: Many people don’t like this book, but I loved it and don’t agree with most of their complaints. This story shows you how it would have been to be a spy during this time. I feel like you don’t see a lot of spy books about this time period, and this book is great!

My Takeaway: This is the story of a courageous girl who decides to giver everything to her country. Parent’s might want to be aware that there are mentions of the harsh British prison ships, and that a hanging is witnessed. Some scenes are intense and contain light violence, and can be a little dark.

Romance: Mild, she thinks about him a lot, he compliments her and writes her a poem.

Violence: Light, a man is hung, mentions of fighting.

Darkness: Light, the shadow of the revolution hangs over Sophia.
