Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow
by Katherine Woodfine
Summary: 14-year-old Sophie Taylor has been orphaned. Forced to find a job, she finds one as a shop girl in the new and glamourous Sinclair’s department store. My Review: This is one of, if not my favorite, mystery series! It combines the beauty and glamour of the Edwardian time period with the dirty, harsh streets of London’s East End. The mystery is great, and the characters are memorable and fun.
My Takeaway: This book is about a group of newfound friends trying to uncover the true thief behind the disappearance of the coveted clockwork sparrow. Parent’s might want to be aware of darker characters, such as a crime lord, and intense scenes including light violence.
Romance: Very Light, you can tell he likes her, a romantic touch
Nudity: None.
Language: Mentions of swearing.
Alcohol/drugs/smoking: None.
Violence: Mild, a man is shot, a kidnapping, a prolonged fight at the very end.
Darkness: Light, death, several murders, one witnessed.
Bad Messages: None.
Good Messages: Found family, the importance of friendship, Good vs. Evil
Stars: 5
