Anne of Green Gables
By L. M. Montgomery
Summary: Orphan Anne Shirley is mistakenly sent to live on Prince Edward Island with Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert. As imaginative, distractable, passionate Anne settles into Green Gables, she makes friends with Diana Berry, and creates a bitter rivalry with Gilbert Blythe. As Anne struggles with cooking and keeping her imagination in check, she begins to become dear to Marilla and Mathew.
My Review: This book is very special to me because Anne was one of the first heroines I connected with. Anne is still one of my favorite book characters, and L.M. Montgomery’s writing is beautiful. Her descriptions bring the scenes to life, and her simple, yet complex characters are delightful.
My Takeaway: This book is a delightful read about the wonder of childhood! The only thing that might affect some children is the theme of loss and death that shows up several times throughout the book.
Romance: Very light, you can tell they like each other, a romantic touch at the end.
