Dragon Slippers
By Jessica Day George
Summary: When Creel’s Aunt gives her to the dragon living near their village in hopes of a knight rescuing and marrying her, Creel is hurt, yes, but not worried. Afterall, no one has seen a dragon for centuries. But when a dragon actually appears, Creel is forced to bargain for her life, ending up with a pair of beautiful slippers. As she struggles with being a seamstresses apprentice and a bratty foreign princess, Creel begins to realize her slippers might be the key to saving – or destroying- her kingdom.
My Review: I absolutely LOVED this book! The plot drew me in and the characters were wonderful. I love the spin the author puts on maidens being captured by dragons, and this story is fairly lighthearted until the end, and the plot twists are unexpected. There are countless scenes and dialogue that made me chuckle! There are mentions of the kingdoms gods, but there isn’t any exploration of rituals or anything.
My Takeaway: This book is about a plucky heroine who is set on not only saving the dragons, but her kingdom. You might want to be aware that there is some violence at the end, but it is not graphic.
Romance: Very light. You suspect that they like each other, and there is a quick kiss at the end that isn’t even described, a character is flirty.
Language: Light, Mentions of swearing.
Alcohol/drugs/smoking: Light, Offhand Mention of drunk men singing, slight drinking.
Violence: Mild, there is a big battle at the end, people perishing in dragon fire, dragon’s fighting, nothing is very graphic though.
Darkness: Light, some darker themes such as slight oppression, prejudice, etc.
Bad Messages: None
Good Messages: The power of friendship, good vs. evil
Stars: 4.5
