Eight Cousins
By Lousia May Alcott
Summary: When lonely and sickly orphan Rose Campbell goes to live with her maiden aunts and her guardian Uncle Alec, her life changes. Not only does Uncle Alec’s strange but effective parenting methods bring health back to Rose, she also becomes friends with her seven boy cousins. Rose, who has hardly even spoken to a boy before now, is at first overwhelmed by their raucous behavior. But she soon settles in, despite her aunt’s plentiful advice and her cousins rowdiness.
My Review: This book is wonderful, full of sweet and funny moments. Rose is a new and gentle heroine, who has a kind heart and an understanding nature. This is a great book for big families, or girls with brothers, who can understand the rowdiness Rose endures.
My Takeaway: This is a lighthearted, fun read showing the joys and pains of a large family! The only thing parents might want to be aware of is slight themes of feminism.
Romance: None.
Nudity: None.
Language: Very light, mentions of swearing.
Alcohol/drugs/smoking: Mentions of drinking and smoking
Violence: None.
Darkness: None.
Bad Messages: If you consider feminism a bad message, there are small hints of it throughout the book.
Good Messages: this book shows the gift of a close family, and how kindness is such a blessing to people.
