Princess of Glass
By Jessica Day George
Summary: In the aftermath of the mystery of the worn out slippers, Princess Poppy is reluctant to participate in the royal exchange program devised by her father and the neighboring kings. Upon her arrival in Breton, Poppy meets kind Prince Christian, who promises friendship…and maybe more. But when Eleanora, an inept servant girl, also sets her sights on the prince, which girl will win his heart? And who is providing Eleanora with the stunning gowns and glass slippers the penniless girl has been wearing to the balls? Only Poppy can see through the magic that has enchanted the rest of Breton, including Prince Christian. Poppy has already defeated one curse, why not another?
My Review: This is just as good as the first book, Princess of the Midnight Ball, unlike some sequels. This is a fun spin on Cinderella, with an awesome plot and enchanting characters. I thought it was such an interesting twist to have the “Cinderella” character be the antagonist, and not the sweet, kind girl we are used to.
My Takeaway: This is a delightful Cinderella re-telling with themes of love and magic. You might want to be aware that this book contains magic, and a character who made his fortune gambling in his past (he has since stopped).
Romance: Mild, like a Princess of the Midnight Ball, the romance is a main plot point, but is very clean. One kiss at the end and romantic thoughts.
Nudity: None.
Language: Light, mentions of swearing.
Alcohol/drugs/smoking: None.
Violence: Light, a minor fight at the end.
Darkness: Mild, a manipulative witch, a character is injured by magic (no gore).
Bad Messages: None
Good Messages: This is a story centering on good vs. evil and true love, with themes of virtue and friendship.
