Instead, the strange dreams warning her about an ancient evil reawakening have been haunting her. When an arrow injures her mother during the ceremony, Sera’s world falls apart. As chaos and destruction fill her city, Serafina and her best friend, Neela, flee, following Sera’s strange dreams as they are pursued by the invading army. They find themselves caught up in a quest to save the mermaid’s world from a deadly evil bent on destroying their homes.

My Takeaway: This a fun summer read with adventure, romance, and friendship. However, you might want to be aware that there are sea witches and magic in this book.

My Review: I LOVED this book!!! Usually mermaid books have unclean romance in it, so I was thrilled to find a spice (sexual scenes) free one! The world is unique, and the characters are fun and lovable. I love Neela, and the humor she brings to the story. There were times when it felt a bit repetitive with them being chased, but overall, it was a great story!

Romance: Mild, mentions of kisses and love, part of the ceremony is a betrothal, comment of a mermaid being “hot”, mentions of boys partying, and are found with lipstick marks on their cheek and one with a smiley face drawn on their chest, a hand is kissed, romantic touch.

Nudity: None.

Language: Use the word “wrasse” (a type of fish) instead of “a*s”, use of H*ll

Alcohol/drugs/smoking: Mentions of people being drunk or drinking.

Violence: Mild, fights throughout the book, mild injuries to characters.

Darkness: Mild, mention of an evil force, a creature who feasts on your fears, death, a man with no eyes.

Bad Messages: None.

Good Messages: The power of friendship, loyalty, courage.
